Evonik Supports Science Education At Palmetto Elementary School
Grant From Global Innovation Leader Marks Company's New Corporate Identity
SARASOTA, Fla., December 4, 2007 – Evonik Industries, whose chemical operations were formerly known as Degussa, today presented Palmetto Elementary School with a $500 community grant to support the school's science education programs.
Allan Meyer, Evonik site manager, said the company made the donation to introduce its new identity. The $500 grant is Evonik’s way of celebrating with its neighbors in Sarasota and continuing the company-wide commitment to science education. “Learning about the wonders of science can serve as a great inspiration for students, who may go on to be the chemists, researchers, or engineers of tomorrow,” he added.
Ed Hundley, principal, Palmetto Elementary School, said the school was "very grateful and very appreciative" of the Evonik donation. "We’re going to use the money to help fund our Renaissance Program, which relies entirely on donations and which recognizes outstanding student and staff each quarter,” said Hundley. "The program is a great motivator for the school. The more support we get from companies like Evonik, the better it is for our pupils and teachers.”
Evonik employees have a deep commitment to science education, Meyer continued. “By supporting our educational institutions,” Meyer said, “we are investing in the development of new scientific discoveries, future research and development researchers, and global economic advancement.”
